“It is never too late to become what you
might have been.” – GEORGE ELIOT
I believe that we all reach certain key points in our lives. We all reach crossroads where our lives hit a certain threshold of “pain” that we are no longer willing to settle for. This threshold is very different for every person. I also believe that if you are unhappy with anything in your life then that is a call to action; a desire from deep within the “real” you that wants to experience more of life.
This can be very challenging for a lot of people as they have this urge to improve their lives but they don’t have an effective strategy. They then do the “logical” thing which is to work on the effects instead of the cause. Here is a simple thought process that will be a wake up call to you if you feel like you are spinning your wheels.
For my life to get better I have to get better.
For things to change I have to change.
I am mine. This is my life and I am the creator of my destiny.
I can change any and everything in my life by simply changing myself. This puts me in the driving seat of my life and makes my life my responsibility. It eliminates fear and apprehension for I know that no matter what life gives me I can always get to the next level and take the next step by simply making the internal shift in my own psychology.
I can stop looking for events, people and circumstances to blame. I only need to look inside. No matter how influential you are you cannot control the circumstances and events of your life. There are only three things over which you have absolute and total control and these are all you need. It forms the total experience of life. My thoughts, my actions and my words are always under my conscious control. They are MY thoughts, they are MY actions and they are MY words AND they create MY world every minute of every day.
This is incredibly liberating. Whenever I want to have more, experience more or change anything, I need only look inwards and work on myself. Jim Rohn once said that the hardest work you will ever do is the work you do on yourself. See, you can run around and work incredibly hard at trying to influence and change circumstances, but that will only make you tired and discourage your future efforts. It’s much easier to change yourself and your perception of yourself and your life. Nothing has any meaning except for the meaning you give it.
Changing external events have very little impact in your life on the long term. Small changes in you; in your perceptions and psychology might seem insignificant at first, but because the change is in you it effects all of your thoughts, all of your actions and all of your words. This seemingly insignificant change, over time changes the whole direction and end destination of your life. If a captain of a ship changes direction just one degree the end destination might be a different continent all together. Like the captain changing his course by one degree it might be unnoticeable over a short period of time, but over greater distances the small change becomes very significant.
Most people try and change the big things; they constantly try and change any and everything in their lives, but they then fail to maintain the change. Instead, making small consistent changes in yourself, in your own character you can create phenomenal results. All change starts and ends with you. If you are going to invest the time and effort to improve your life, then invest it in changing yourself. Invest your time and effort in improving “you” and let go of the superficial urges to control events and circumstances. Your whole perception and experience of life comes from you and who you are. Change yourself, improve your character and just watch the world improve and change before your very eyes.

Take the first step, and your mind will mobilize all its forces to your aid. But the first essential is that you begin. Once the battle is started, all that is within and without you will come to your assistance. Robert Collier

If you are at a crossroads in your life, perhaps the hardest thing to do is take that first step towards change and the creation of a new life.

We live in a world of uncertainty, an uncertainty promoted and embellished in fact, by sensationalist media reporting.Sometimes it leaves us feeling powerless and wondering whether it is worth taking that risk, that step forward, that leap of faith which may lead us through uncharted territory and towards personal achievement and growth.

But if we cave in to the negativity out there and within ourselves, we have essentially closed the door and accepted the status quo.We have decided that things are all too hard, unchangeable, and that maybe our lot in life is in fact, mediocrity, self-doubt and feeling unfulfilled.

Might I suggest that you think back to when you were a child? That was a time when you were free to be whatever you chose to be.Everything was imaginable.Everything was possible. There were no limiting beliefs and the world was your oyster. You could be a king one day, the president of the United States another, and Spiderman when you saw fit.You didn’t have to battle with that inner being that cautions you that things are too hard, they won’t work, people will talk, and anyway the risk is too great. That was a time when you were the utterly positive human being, invincible, forward thinking, and strong.

Imagine now, if you could harness that invincible courageous being again. What would it feel like?Where might it take you? What could you do?Would you be worried about what people might think of you?Would negativity be part of you being?I think not!

You know, it is possible to regain that positive self.It is doable, and it can change your life, change it in ways that you might never have dreamed possible. Moreover, the more you work at being positive and proactive, the more you develop an ‘I-can-do-it’ attitude, the less chance there is for your enduring the monkey chatter that tends to weigh us down.

Identify your fears. What caused them in the first instance? Are they reasonable fears? Are they going to occur? Will that bolt of lightning strike you down?

You know fears are often quite irrational. How often does a bolt of lightning kill? How many people do you know who have been killed by a falling tree?I don’t know one, and yet, many people’s lives are controlled by their irrational thinking.

So, once you have identified your fears and put them into perspective, it is time to move on and surround yourself with positive people, people who have no time for negative thinking or limiting beliefs.Such people are too busy becoming, and growing, and developing their beings. Most likely they are also developing their bank reserves too!

And now you must action your desires. It is one thing to visualize your growing bank account, your new home, car, and whatever else you wish for, but you also have to be informed and work towards your goals.Nothing is going to come out of this air. There is no magic in this. It’s a coupling of your desires and your hard work that will propel you towards your desires.Read.Be informed.Get rid of the excuses.Have an opinion so that you are confident to try, to move forward and take that initial step.More importantly, adopt a confident air.

Change your thought processes too.Whenever you find yourself thinking bad thoughts, stop, and turn them around. It’s hard at first, but with practice it becomes second nature. You will begin to notice when others speak negatively or badly of others and it will have lost its appeal for you.

In all of this forgive people.Create some time to help others. What talents could you utilise for the benefit of someone who is in need? You know the more you try to find time for philanthropy, the more time you will have.

The result of all of this is that people will start to like you, to notice the change, and perhaps even want to be around you.How good would that be?You can change your life!
